Randall Shreve: Devil's in the Details

Randall Shreve lets us into his creative mind.

SOME ARTISTS HAVE THE MAGIC, that certain je ne sais quoi. And Randall Shreve is indisputably one of those artists. Having visited his private studio, Deitra Magazine had the honor of witnessing his creative process, getting an insight into how his mind works and taking a real look at the man behind the curtain. He is the quintessential artist — a dream for any music enthusiast, both through song and the written word.

Melodikats: Musical Precision

Written by Tamara Styer

COMPOSED OF MUSICIANS WHO have been playing music since before the 8-track, the Melodikats out of Mountain Home, Arkansas are bringing back the classic songs that we haven't heard in years. These guys are covering tunes by greats that many bands simply do not attempt. Songs like "She's Gone" by Hall & Oates, "I Can't Tell You Why" by The Eagles, and "Josie" by Steely Dan are just a few notable songs the band covers. The Melodikats are bringing a new meaning to the idea of classic hits, and have hand-picked a unique collection of exceptional songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Deitra Magazine had the honor of chatting with these veteran players about each of their musical backgrounds, and tales from living the musician's dream back when being on the road was more of a reality than a dream.

Kids and Chemicals: Sea of Trees

Written by Tamara Styer

FROM CULT FAVORITE ELECRTO-POP duo Kids and Chemicals comes this dreamy, alternative rock tune that is one of the most inspired tracks we’ve heard this season. Transcendent in its delivery, “Sea of Trees” has brought the band’s sound to a new level. The band’s new single and accompanying music video have gained coverage from publications like clrvynt.com and New Noise Magazine, and coupled with the release of a full-length album entitled After Life, this might be Kids and Chemicals’ most anticipated project yet.

Deitra Fashion: Femme Carnivale

THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS photoshoot came with the arrival of the County Fair. The idea of a beautiful and chic girl accidently finding herself in a small town fair was something I have always wanted to play with. Light, ethereal and clean were my guide words, femininity my theme. A very finely dressed woman, soft and pristine, contrasted against the simply dressed people at a busy and dirty fairground.

LUX: Calloused Hearts & Love Songs

“THE ROMANS AND THE Greeks believed the Muse and the Genius were these otherworldly things — these spirits,” Jake Wesley Rogers tells me between long pulls on the straw of his iced coffee. “It wasn’t until the Renaissance that the Genius became the man. And when the man became the Genius, I think that’s where it all went wrong.”

Music Review: Shaun Munday

written by Tamara Styer

SHAUN MUNDAY’S SELF-TITLED debut solo album is a tribute to oldschool blues singers accompanied by Munday’s exquisite acoustic songwriting using only one instrument. He is a bass aficionado, making the guitar sing rhythmically as if it were three instruments in one.

Andrew Batcheller: Flights of Fantasy

written by Charles Goodin

IT'S THE SCENE'S UNAPOLOGETIC bleakness that first draws me in: a bird, perched pensively on a dry, weathered branch and framed only by the slightest hint of a wispy, blue dusk. As the creature's beady eye bores into mine, I begin to see the tableau as the solemn epilogue to a story of apocalyptic proportions — one in which the sole survivor of some world-rending disaster needs no words to indict my character.

Woman of Many Hats: Brande Wilkerson

Written by Reyna Lay | Photos Courtesy of Victory Vintage Boutique

I HAD THE PLEASURE of meeting Mrs. Brande Wilkerson – owner of Victory Vintage Boutique and Design Studio, and self-taught designer extraordinaire – a few years ago after seeing her love for vintage clothing on her YouTube channel. She is not only a mother, a wife, and an entrepreneur who has built a successful business from inside the walls of her own home but, she is also an incredible designer in her own right. Her official title is Owner/Chief Designer and Artistic Developer for Innovative Fashion and Millinery Concepts. Although she’s a very busy lady who wears a lot of hats (pun completely intended), she took a moment to tell Deitra Mag a little more about herself and the future of her business.
