THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS photoshoot came with the arrival of the County Fair. The idea of a beautiful and chic girl accidently finding herself in a small town fair was something I have always wanted to play with. Light, ethereal and clean were my guide words, femininity my theme. A very finely dressed woman, soft and pristine, contrasted against the simply dressed people at a busy and dirty fairground.

As I wandered around the Review Shoppe looking for clothing that spoke to me, the very first outfit that I fell in love with was the lovely little blue dress with the horse silhouettes. I loved how simple and flirty it was, and that it felt very tongue-in-cheek. Pairing it with an adorable, bedazzled bow, ballet flats and that AMAZING reversible Michael Kors bag completed this very sweet look. Cotton candy was also a major contender in completing the look.

Beauty Director Kristen Lentz prepped our model Shelby's hair with Big Sexy Silk Finish. She then crimped the top section of hair half way down starting at the root area with Sexy Hair Texture Lock Pro and Healthy Sexy Soy Touchable. She also used Soy Touchable and Sexy Hair Curl Lock Pro while curling the bottom half of the hair with a large barrel curing iron. She then finished with Big Sexy Hair Spray & Stay for saying power throughout the night, while keeping touchable movement and bounce. For Shelby's eyes, Lentz used a mix between Smashbox metallic violet & Too Faced Sweet Peach collection. Her rosy cheeks were achieved with Smashbox LA Lights pallette.

The second outfit that caught my eye was the blue and white striped crop top and skirt. Pairing them with a deep grape colored heel, a multi-strand necklace, a large sunhat and soft pink sunglasses completed the clean, beachy look that was the goal. Using gold as an accent added warmth and richness to the look.

The third and final outfit was the beautiful cream and beige pant look. This look was meant to be feminine but powerful; soft and hard at the same time. We pared it with lovely beige heels, and other than that, let the beautiful fit and fabrics speak for themselves. This outfit was one of my favorites of the photoshoot.

Photographer Spotlight: Growing up in the area, the Ozarks Empire Fair has always been a tradition. In more recent years, I would grab my camera and take typical fair photos - mostly nighttime shots of the colorful rides. After doing that plenty of times, I wanted to change it up a bit. I thought it would be interesting to have one of our models looking very chic against the grungy background of the fair. I also wanted to help draw focus to our model by keeping her still with the movement of the crowd and rides in the background. The shoot was definitely quite interesting! Unfortunately, it was cut short due to a bit of rain towards the end as we were all making sure to "save the clothes!" But one of the biggest highlights was having a bit of fair food, and at least one jug of root beer. I'm still surprised we didn't completely obliterate that bag of cotton candy! DM
