Myths & Monsters: The Fauness

For this photo shoot, Editor Tamara Styer and Beauty Director Kristen Lentz were inspired by “The Fauness,” an illustration and sculpture in Rose O’Neill’s Sweet Monsters collection.

Modeled by Cori Edwards and photographed by Matt Loveland, Styer and Lentz set out to capture the charm and whimsy of the female version of the faun - a mythological half-human, half-goat creature notorious for their lustful nature and their love of the forest and music. Though few female fauns can be found in stories, our Fauness is as beautiful as she is sly and cunning, luring us into her wooded abode with dancing and the eerie enchantment of her pan flute song.

This creation will be on display at the Springfield Art Museum's 99x: Myths & Monsters event on Saturday, September 28. We are honored to be featured in the most anticipated annual event in the Queen City. We will share behind the scenes photos and videos of the event, right here on deitramag.com!

More About the Event:

Springfield, MO. (September 18, 2019) – The Annual 99x (Times) Party, a Museum signature fundraising event benefiting the Collection Preservation & Conservation Fund returns on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Begun in 2014, the 99x Party has raised over $64,000 in critical conservation funds in order to help preserve the Museum's collection for the next 100 years so it can continue to delight and educate audiences for generations to come.

This year's event, 99x: Myths & Monsters, raises funds to restore 59 newly donated works to our collection by Rose O'Neill, a portion of which are slated for a focus exhibition in 2022. Twenty-three local stylists, artists, and musicians will transform the Museum into an enchanted woodland of living art tableaux and performances - all inspired by Rose O’Neill’s mythical and fantastical creatures called "Sweet Monsters." A 2019 inductee into the National Women’s Hall of Fame, O’Neill was a prolific artist, illustrator, inventor, author, bohemian, fashion icon, and suffragist with strong local ties.

Guests of 99x: Myths & Monsters will enjoy food, drink, and live music from The Violet Lockets, as well as roving performers Sarah Hebert, Laura Killingsworth, Daniell Koch, Drew Holt, and creature creations by Emily Edgar Makeup. Stylists include: Sandi Baker, Nate Black, Andie Bottrell, Madeline Brice, Tommi Clark, Culture Flock, Deitra Magazine, Lillian Fitzpatrick, the Greens, Whitney Gillenwaters, Allison Jester, Heather Kane, Colby Kern, Crystal Methyd, Danielle Million, Meganne Rosen, Jennifer Vaughn, and Jackie Warren.

Returning this year is a VIP Sponsor Hour sponsored by O’Reilly Hospitality Management with beverages and signature cocktail courtesy of Macadoodles. Guests are encouraged to dress in creative cocktail attire keeping with the theme. Part of the fun of the event is being photographed inside the immersive art tableaux. Guests also receive a commemorative Look Book that immortalizes the ephemeral creations, on display for one night only. 99x: Myths & Monsters is generously presented by Hagan, Tucker, Schmitt & Gintz LLC CPAs + Advisors.
