The Eiffels Spin Us Right 'Round

THE EIFFELS ARE AN INDIE POP band that's been on our radar and in our playlists for a few years now. Hailing from Los Angeles, the band has been piling up a stack of accolades from magazine write-ups and radio play in L.A. to landing tracks on video games, hit Netflix movies and MTV series. They've performed at Van’s Warped Tour and performed with artists like X Ambassadors and Plain White T’s.

The first song we fell in love with was "Heartbeat," an energetic dance rock tune with a pop beat and a clean guitar-anthem chorus reminiscent of pop/punk bands like Panic at the Disco! and Walk the Moon. Their discography includes chart-worthy singles and full EPs, all of which are not only listenable, but bound to become a staple in your favorite music rotation. The Eiffels offer vibrant danceable pop hooks with the backbone of a modern alt-rock beat. Riding the ridge of high energy New Wave-inspired grooves, The Eiffels masterfully combine the polish and style of mainstream pop with throwback posh and grit of 80s synth. Deitra Magazine catches up with front man, Sean Ulbs, who expresses his desire to create music that makes you move.

Song Submitted: “Spin Around

MUSICAL BACKGROUND: [I took] a couple years of piano lessons as a kid. I got my first guitar in high school, and started a punk band with my friends soon after. I also studied music in college and interned at a couple studios.

ON INSPIRATION: Great music and art inspires me. I love the satisfaction of creating something from nothing. Solving the puzzle to make it work.

There's a special place for 70's and 80's rock and pop.

SIGNATURE SOUND: We've been called synth rock quite a bit, but we're inspired by a lot of dance and pop music as well. Music that makes me want to move has always been the most inspiring, so we tend to keep the BPMs up.

ON SONGWRITING: [My songs are generally about] nightlife, love and things that inspire me. I think "Collide” is my new favorite. I love to start with the rhythm section, and work things out from there.

FAVORITE MUSICAL ERA: I love it all, but there's a special place for 70's and 80's rock and pop.

Remembering the enormous spectrum of genres, styles and particular talents, and "limitations" of the countless legends in music can be a great way to overcome overthinking, or over-critiquing yourself.

ON PERFORMING + RECORDING: I love the excitement of feeling something come together when recording music. An audience with great energy is what I love most about performing live.

ON FASHION: There's a punk simplicity, and straight-forward energy, to a lot of what we do, and I think that becomes more obvious at our live shows.

I love the satisfaction of creating something from nothing. Solving the puzzle to make it work.

OVERCOMING OBSTACLES: Comparison can be lethal, at least in the sense that most of us will always be able to find someone that we think is "better" than us at something. Remembering the enormous spectrum of genres, styles and particular talents, and "limitations" of the countless legends in music can be a great way to overcome overthinking, or over-critiquing yourself.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Our song “More” was recently featured as the opening song for Netflix's "Kissing Booth 2." Performing on Vans Warped Tour was a dream come true. Having "Body Like That" featured in the Rock Band 4 video game was very cool. And anytime we get to hear ourselves on the radio it’s exciting.   DM
